Triceratium schmidtii (8 angles), from Ambrim Island, New Hebrides (Ambrym, Vanuatu). Single example on the slide mounted with the rim upwards towards the coverslip. Prepared by William Allott Firth. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Image stacks prepared in Zerene (Pmax). Three stacks are shown – a full stack of the all images, a partial stack of about 2/3 of the images showing the middle and lower parts of the diatom, and stack of about 1/3 of the images which emphasizes the processes and some different features in the cells. Quite an amazing structure.
