An arrangement of eight Triceratium fractum (now known as Triceratium castellatum var. fractum). One has gone wandering and is now in the red ring around the arrangement, at the bottom right of the rest of them. Oamaru, New Zealand. Dated 10/6/45 and mounted in Styrax. There’s no makers name, but based on the style, and some others I have seen for sale I think this is by WF Reeve (I am currently not sure if this is the same WF Reeve as some other slides I have by Wallace Frederick Reeve such as here as the style is different). Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I chose the unusual looking one at the bottom right for imaging at higher resolution. 40x Leitz Pl Apo 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 74 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
The one I imaged with the 40 objective is unusual, and I’ve not seen another one like it. Maybe it’s a different variant (or form of a variant)? Not sure.
