An arrangement of two diatoms from Totara, New Zealand. No makers name, but prepared by LDB Catalani. Dated October 1976 and mounted in Naphrax (R.I. 1.70). Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 69 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
The diatoms are;
Left, labelled as Stictodiscus hardmanianus but fairly sure this is wrong and should be Stictodiscus californicus var. areolata.
Right, labelled as Biddulphia. I think this is Biddulphia tridens (viewed from the top).
