Stephanodiscus astraea arrangement. 4 diatoms in a row. Prepared by Samuel Meakin. Mounted in Styrax. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. For the main stack (shown as a square arrangement), each diatom was imaged individually using a 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, slightly oblique lighting, smaller iris than usual (didn’t change from 20x images). 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Stacks of each diatom prepared in Zerene (Pmax), and then pasted together into the square arrangement in Photoshop.
