Skeletonema penicillus, Clarke and Page

Skeletonema penicillus, 4x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.20 objective, brightfield
Skeletonema penicillus

An arrangement of Skeletonema penicillus (in between a couple of Eupodiscus argus) from Jutland. No makers name, but I understand this is by Clarke and Page. The mountant is very yellowed, and this gave me some issues with imaging, leading to long exposure times with the blue light. Also, there are what I initially thought were huge crystals from the mountant, but given their appearance, I now think these are placed deliberately to help protect the delicate structures of the diatoms. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 45 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). I left the background ‘as is’ from the stacking with this one, as the complex fine structure meant tidying it up would be nightmare.
