I am not sure about the name for this one. P. stellulifera is mentioned in Van Heurck, H. (1880). Synopsis des Diatomées de Belgique. Atlas. Ducaju & Cie., Anvers. page(s): pl. 84, fig. 25. In this it is written as Podosira (?) stellulifera, which is how Meakin had written it on the slide, which makes me think Van Heurck was not 100% on the identification of this as a Podosira. However the image in the book is not of sufficient quality for it to be positively identified anyway. While looking for other possible examples, I came across an SEM image of Podosira hormoides in Park JS, Lobban CS, Lee K-W, Jung SW (2022). Additional floristic study of planktonic and seaweed-associated diatoms in Chuuk, Micronesia. Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 102, 27–61. https://doi.org/10.1017/S002531542200025X. This SEM image is very similar to the example on the slide. Where does this leave me with regards to the name. In the absence of other high quality images to compare it with I cannot positively identify this as Podosira stellulifera, however it could be Podosira hormoides or another species.
