Two strew slides from Palos Verdes, California, USA. Wide range of species present. Mounted in Sirax and dated June 1966. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I selected some from each slide for imaging at higher resolution. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Image stacks prepared in Zerene (PMax).

Navicula lyra. 28 images stacked. Fairly sure on this ID.

Auliscus pruinosus. 52 images stacked. I am reasonably sure of this one.

Hyalodiscus frenguelli. 43 images stacked. View from the underside. While I am confident of this being a Hyalodiscus, I am less sure on the species here.

Good reference which helped me with the ID’s: Barron, John A., Late Miocene-early Pliocene Marine diatoms from Southern California, Palaeontographica Abteilung B Band 151 Lieferung 4-6 (1975), p. 97 – 170.

Notable mention on the image of the strew on slide 2 to a Euodia (perhaps E. janischii) towards the upper right of the photo.
