A strew slide from Palos Verdes. Prepared by Ray Parkinson. Mounted in Naphrax and dated July 1979. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light.
Eupodiscus californicus f. bioculata. I am pretty confident about this ID as I have another one on the site which looks very similar (although the ocelli do not go to the edge of the rim like with this one). Viewed from beneath and with slight damage to its rim. 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 25 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
Asteromphalus sp. Maybe A. moronensis based on the appearance and looking through Schmidt’s Atlas (Plate 38, Fig 24). There is a blurring of the image in the top right as there was overlaying diatom debris. 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 38 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
Stephanopyxis sp. (maybe hyalomarginata). Interesting view from beneath and at an angle, allows the spines to be seen clearly. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, very oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 37 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
