An arrangement of two diatoms from Oamaru, New Zealand. Prepared by WA Firth. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 79 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). Slight repositioning in Photoshop to get them closer together in the final image.
So, the names. The slide says Triceratium parallelum and Stictodiscus hardmanianus. Based on appearance and looking at the Oamaru Diatoms website (see here) I think these are probably Stictodiscus splendidus and Stictodiscus hardmanianus var. hardmanianus.
