I’ve titles this page Navicula zanzibarica, but actually the slide has an arrangement of three diatoms on it – Triceratium nitescens, Synedra crystallina and Navicula zanzibarica – all of which I’ve imaged. No name, but prepared by Henry Morland. Dated 22nd March 1903. Accepted name for Triceratium nitescens is Trilamina nitescens. Navicula zanzibarica is also known as Lyrella zanzibarica.
T. nitescens is in Greville, R.K. (1865). Descriptions of new and rare Diatoms. Series XIV. Transactions of the Microscopical Society, New Series, London, 13: 1-10, pls I & II page(s): p. 8, pl. II, fig. 19, excerpts from which are shown below. Figure 19 is the top right one in the plate.
N. zanzibarica is described in Greville, R.K. (1866). Descriptions of new and rare Diatoms. Series XX. Transactions of the Microscopical Society, New Series, London, 14: 121-130, pls XI & XII page(s): p. 129; pl. 12, fig. 22. Again the relevant sections are given below. It is fig. 22 in the middle of the plate.
