Monopsia sp. fragment. Single example on the slide, with the oculus facing upwards towards the coverslip. Mounted in Sty-Aroc, and dated Sept 75. Prepared by Richard Gosden. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I wanted to use a 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40 objective for this, but the small coverslip (and ring) meant access with this objective was a problem and I could only capture the upper part of the diatom with it. Hence I used a 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 oil immersion objective for the full image. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Image stacks prepared in Zerene (Pmax). 40x objective, 74 images. 63x objective, 27 images (any more and objective was touching the slide with this one).
NOTE – I will return to this description when I have looked more into what species it could be. I also want to find out more about where this was collected. The slide says “Sth (or perhaps 5th) Atlantic Deep Sea Core S. (or 5. or 6.) No.1″.
