A strew slide from Kamischev, Russia. Prepared by RI Firth. Lots of really interesting diatoms on the slide, including Odontotropis sp. (and resting spores), what I think is Sphynctolethus hemiauloides, Anuloplicata sp. and Hyalodiscus sp.. There are what look to be small transparent spheres all around the edge of the coverslip. Perhaps these were used to act as spacers to prevent the coverslip from crushing the diatoms? Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. Main stacks were done using a 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Stacks done in Zerene using Pmax. Lower magnification images (unstacked) done with 10x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.45 and 20x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.65 objectives.
