A slide with diatom fragments from Joe’s River, Barbados. Prepared by Samuel Henry Meakin. Mounted in Hyrax and dated September 1934. Some issues with the mountant/fixative. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I’ve picked one of the fragments for imaging with the 63x objective, as it looks very unusual. There are what looks to be rimoportulae on it, but I have never seen a diatom fragment which looks like this. The darker splodges are from the issues with the fixative/mountant. I’m not even 100% certain that this is part of a diatom, hence the ‘diatom’ description as that is what Meakin used. If you recognize this, please drop me an email. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 20 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
