A quite amazing strew slide from Jackson’s Paddock, Oamaru, New Zealand. Wide range of species, many in good condition and many I have not seen before. Filtered material, between 20 and 200 (presumably microns). Prepared by Mike Samworth. Mounted in Naphrax and dated October 2001.
I’ve made an attempt at naming them using the Oamaru Diatoms website, Schmidt’s Atlas, and the book ‘Oamaru Diatoms’ by Desikachary and Sreelatha. However there are some discrepancies between images from different sources, so in cases where I am less than certain I have included question marks after the names in the images. For the Liradiscus images, I think these are either L. marginatus or L. ovalis (or a mixture). Overall, one of the most amazing strew slides I have seen. The Trigonium glandiferum ID has come from the Desikachary and Sreelatha book (plate 134, figure 4), but other examples I have seen do not look like it, so that is a very tentative naming.
