Eupodiscus sp., WA Firth

Eupodiscus sp. (E. radiatus ?)

Slide labelled as Eupodiscus from Caracas, Venezuela. Single example on the slide. Coverslip thickness 0.004″ (0.10mm). Dated 1896. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 48 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).

So, the name. The slide just has this as Eupodiscus. Doesn’t specify whether it is fossil or recent, marine or freshwater. Caracas is near the coast, so this could be either marine or freshwater, or brackish. The safe bet would be Eupodiscus radiatus, however the ocelli on this one look large compared with the overall diatom diameter for the examples of E. radiatus I have seen. So, I’m not sure, and have mentioned the name purely as a possibility at this stage. Any ideas, please let me know.
