Coscinodiscus caraibicus from Hayti [Haiti]. The label also looks to say diversus after it, but I’m not sure why. Single example on the slide. Unknown maker. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 53 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). Some issues with debris (mainly lower left quadrant). Also some stacking artefacts, especially visible towards the edge (parallel lines around the polygons.

C. caraibicus nov. sp. T. & W.

Smaller, flatter form. The meshes [areolae] in the center are small, round, scattered, and randomly arranged. In the second third of the radius, the meshes [areolae] become large, hexagonal, densely arranged in spirals; at the margins, they are very small and finally merge into a radial marginal sculpture.

Common. Plate II, Figure 3.

A similar form, and apparently belonging to our species, is that illustrated by A. Schmidt in the Atlas, Plate 62, Figure 15, where it remained unnamed. Schmidt’s specimen comes from material from Barbados.”

I recently acquired about 60 slides by this maker, so if you want to see others by them, search for AAAAA in the Search option at the top of the page, and I’ll include this in each of the pages for them.
