Charcotia decrescens from a strew slide from British Antarctic Survey, Elephant Island. I have also seen this referred to as Charcotiella decrescens and a couple of other names. Prepared by Klaus Kemp. Mounted in Hyrax and dated 11/01/[19]77. There is also 1999 next to Hyrax on the label, so perhaps 1977 was the collection date and 1999 was the mounting date. I am unclear on this. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. Leitz 63x Pl Apo NA 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, slightly oblique, oil immersion. Nikon 2.5x CF photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 21 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). The diatom was a quite an angle in the mountant. This combined with the use of oblique lighting, and the steep side wall on it, and the final image is not as good as I would normally like. I may revisit this one.
