Actinoptychus sp.

An arrangement with Biddulphia edwardsii and 8 Actinoptychus from Sendai, Japan (spelt Sandai here). Biddulphia edwardsii is also known as Odontella edwardsii. The Actinoptychus are interesting as well, being not all the same species, and with one with an aberrant structure. Prepared by Laurence Miles – the LM initials are present in stylized form on the slide.

Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. Main stacks done with a 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion (the diatoms were too deeply mounted to use the 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.40). Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, slightly oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
