Auliscus grevillei from Mejillones, Bolivia. Single example on the slide, mounted with the underside upwards (rim facing the coverslip). Prepared by WA Firth. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion (couldn’t get close enough with the 63x Leitz I would have liked to use). Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 37 images stacked in Zerene.
Auliscus grevillei Janisch 1861. Published in: Janisch, C. (1861). Page 163, Plate 2, Figure 11. In this it is spelt Auliscus grevillii.
Interestingly I have another example of A. grevillei on the site (see here). However the one on this page is flatter than the other one (which has the ocelli more raised and at an angle). A similar thing (flat vs. raised/angled ocelli) is also seen sometimes with Auliscus hardmanianus (see here).
