Aulacodiscus superbus from Joe’s River, Barbados. Single example on the slide. Mounted in Styrax and dated November 1935. Prepared by Samuel Henry Meakin. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, slightly oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 83 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).

This one is almost intact, although there does look to be some minor damage to the process at the 8 o’clock position. However a beautiful diatom and now a treasured slide. I actually have another example of this, mounted by Meakin, which is shown here.
