Arrangement inc. Rattrayella and Aulacodiscus, unknown maker

Arrangement, 4x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.20 objective, brightfield mosaic
Aulacodiscus septus
Rattrayella sp. (R. palaeocenica ?)

A slide of various diatoms (labelled ‘Aulacodiscus schmidtii, Aulaco. sp., Rattrayella 3 ocelli’). Some serious movement with some of them. I can see a Rattrayella (towards the top), a cluster of 5 including Aulacodiscus septus, an Actinoptychus and a Coscinodiscus (towards the right), and a Coscinodiscus (towards the bottom left). Unknown maker, and no indication as to a location. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. For the high magnification images, 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Image stacks done in Zerene (Pmax).

Aulacodiscus septus. 34 images stacked. Viewed from above (rim downwards). For more information see Strelnikova, N. I., Fourtanier, E., & Kociolek, J. P. (2004). Morphological studies of Aulacodiscus species from the “Russian collection” of the California Academy of Sciences. Diatom Research, 19(2), 283–310. https://doi.org/10.1080/0269249X.2004.9705876.

Rattrayella sp. Probably R. palaeocenica. 52 images stacked. Viewed from the underside with the rim towards the coverslip. ID based on: Patricia A. Sims (2006) A revision of the genus Rattrayella De-Toni including a discussion on related genera, Diatom Research, 21:1, 125-158, DOI: 10.1080/0269249X.2006.9705656.

Based on these 2, I’d guess these are from a Russian site.

I recently acquired about 60 slides by this maker, so if you want to see others by them, search for AAAAA in the Search option at the top of the page, and I’ll include this in each of the pages for them.
