An arrangement of Actinocyclus barklyi (spelt berkeleyi on the slide) from Mobile, Alabama, USA. Prepared by Watson and Sons Ltd. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I imaged the mostly intact one using a 63x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oblique lighting, oil immersion. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 58 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). I had to look for it but the pseudonodule is barely visible at the 9 o’clock position right next to the rim. As I understand it the faint pseudonodule is a feature of this diatom.
Can’t find the use of this spelling. Presuming this is Actinocyclus barklyi Kitton 1878 (as ‘Barklyi‘). Published in: Kitton, F. (1879). Notes sur quelques Diatomées. Bulletin de la Société Belge de Microscopie 5: XXXI-XXXVI, 2 figs. XXXVI, no fig.
