Mataura and Totara strews, Bernard Hartley

Mataura strew, 10x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.45 objective, brightfield
Hyalodiscus sp. (H. radiatus or H. radiatus var. arctica ?)

A couple of strew slides from Oamaru, New Zealand. First from Mataura, Oamaru, New Zealand. Wide variety of species. Mounted in Naphrax and dated June 1975. Prepared by Bernard Hartley. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I chose an example of a Hyalodiscus sp. (maybe Hyalodiscus radiatus or H. radiatus var. arctica) for high magnification imaging. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 29 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax). View from the underside with the rim facing the coverslip.

Totara strew, 10x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.45 objective, brightfield

Second from Totara, Oamaru, New Zealand. Wide variety of species. Mounted in Aroclor and dated May 1975. Prepared by Bernard Hartley. I’ve included an image of the strew here as it has a fragment of an Actinodiscus sp. which I have rarely seen.
