Bernard Hartley slide 650A

Two strew slides from Black Moss, Aberdeenshire. Material from Prof Trueman. Mounted in Aroclor and dated August 1975. One slide has just smaller forms. Range of species present. No makers name but this is by Bernard Hartley. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. I chose a couple for imaging at high magnification. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. Images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).

Cavinula sp. maybe Cavinula variostriata. 27 images stacked.

Pinnularia sp. I think this is P. subsolaris (based on Schmidt’s Atlas Plate 392, Figure 4 which is from Black Moss). 18 images stacked.

Although smaller in size, both of these were from the slide with the larger diatoms and fragments.

There is an entry from Bernard Hartley’s Sample and Strew Slide Collection PDF for this – slide 650A – accessed from here (also screenshotted above).
