Four strew strews from sites in California. No makers name, but I think these are by WF Reeve. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 10x Nikon Plan Apo NA 0.45 objective for the wide field strew images. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera.
Sharktooth Hill

Panoche, Kreyenhagen, Moreno shales

Nice range of species, including plenty of Xanthiopyxis sp. and Liradiscus ovalis. I selected one, a Pseudopodosira sp. I think (maybe P. westii) for imaging with the 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 oil immersion objective and oblique lighting. An underside view with the rim to the coverslip. 45 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).

For me this was the standout slide of the 4. There were dozens of diatoms I could have imaged on here, including loads of different Auliscus sp., what looks to be Stictodiscus (S. buryanus ?), Porpeia sp. etc etc. A very interesting strew.
Overall all 4 slides made up a nice cross section of California sites. Great range of diatoms. Only issue is that the coverslip rings were quite high which made using high magnification high NA objectives problematic.
