Pyrgodiscus armatus Kitton ex Cleve 1885. Published in: Cleve, P.T. (1885). On some fossil marine diatoms found in the Moravian “Tegel” from Augarten, near BrĂ¼nn. Journal of the Quekett Microscopical Club, series 2 2: 165-177, pls XII, XIII. Page 173, Plate XIII (13), Figures 13a, 13b.
Full disclosure. I did some tidying up of this image. There was some dirt on the left side of the diatom, and I cloned this out with some of the background. I have not added anything to the body of the diatom, and I have not replaced missing parts. I believe this one warranted it as it could be removed without needing to replace any part of the diatom, and due to the utmost rarity of this one. I think this might just be my new favourite…..
