A strew slide of ‘Diatoms, various localities’, prepared by Samuel Henry Meakin. Mounted in Hyrax and dated April 1932. Obviously a wide range of material present. Unfortunately some issues with the mountant/fixative resulting is dots/bubbles across most of it.
I picked one for imaging as I hadn’t seen one before – I think it is Stylobiblium japonicum (formly known as Tetracyclus japonicus). Schmidt’s Atlas Plate 282, Figures 1,2. Williams D. M. 2003. — The type material of Tetracyclus japonicus (Petit) Temp. & H. Perag. and Tetracyclus eckhardii Ehrenb. (Bacillariophyceae). Cryptogamie, Algologie 2003 (4): 333-340. Dirt over bottom right of the diatom hence the image is softer there. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 9 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
