A strew slide from Poole Harbour, Arne, Dorset, collected from ‘fucus attached to old car tyre.’. Prepared by Bernard Hartley. Mounted in Hyrax and dated April 1987 (collected 28th March 1987). Wide range of species present.

I selected one to image at higher resolution. I’ve been told this is likely to be Tryblionella punctata. Old name Nitzschia compressa. Interesting ‘S’ shaped cross section, with one side upwards, and the otherside displaced downwards. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 63x Leitz Pl Apo 1.4 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 19 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
