Aulacodiscus kittonii, Bernard Hartley

Aulacodiscus kittonii

A linear arrangement of three Aulacodiscus kittonii. The left one has the rim closest to the coverslip, the other two have the rim facing away from the coverslip. Prepared by Bernard Hartley. Mounted in Styrax and dated January 1987. Olympus BHB microscope using 450nm LED light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo NA 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, brightfield lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 45 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).

Initially I was concerned that there was a lot of ‘dot’ artefacts present in each of the aroelae, however looking at SEM images this seems to be real, and the holes are papillae.
