Stephanogonia (new sp.?) from Russia. Fossil marine material (but no specific location unfortunately). Mounted in Sirax. Broken pieces of coverslip used as spacers. Diatoms have moved to the edge of the ring. With the 450nm light, the ring looked very dark, so I imaged this with broadband white light. This lightened up the ring a bit. Prepared by Flatters and Garnett Ltd. Olympus BHB microscope using white LED light. 40x Leitz Pl Apo 1.00 objective, oil immersion. Olympus Aplanat Achromat condenser, oil immersion, oblique lighting. 2.5x Nikon CF PL photoeyepiece. Monochrome converted Nikon d850 camera. 60 images stacked in Zerene (Pmax).
Interesting one this with it’s pitted looking surface. I’ve not seen one like it before, so perhaps the ‘new species’ claim is justified.
